In the Gospel of John, the scene of the Last Supper is presented as a farewell charged with anxiety: the disciples perceive that Jesus will be taken away and wonder what will become of them without his presence. Jesus speaks to them with special tenderness and offers them a decisive key: they can remain united to him even after his death, never being abandoned to solitude. The identification with God that Jesus had overflows our words, but we are also called to live it. God does not arrive from outside, but dwells in the deepest part of us, and expresses himself through a living and reciprocal love relationship, a creative force that opens us to a reality broader than the purely visible.
