I was born in a small village in Segovia in 1940. In a family where traditional religiosity was deeply lived. My childhood memories are soaked in Christian practices. My parents were exemplary. I have always been a “seeker of the things above.” (I didn’t quite know what I was looking for, but I was searching). I have been a practicing Christian but always unsatisfied. I couldn’t find meaning, neither intellectually nor in faith, in what I was doing. And so it went until I was 67 years old.
When I retired (I was a professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid for forty years) I began my serious Christian formation. I started from a growing, almost unbearable restlessness: The God in whom one believes cannot be worse than me. The idea of God I had, the God of the Old Testament, was problematic and troubling to me. My serious Christian formation began at the Madrid Biblical School. With that formation, the pieces of my spiritual puzzle began to fit together and my Christian life started to make sense.
In 2010, I began my work as a Celebrant of the Word in eleven small villages near my birthplace. In searching for sources to prepare for this new occupation, I came across Feadulta and its Training School (EFFA). It was for me like finding the perfect fit for my shoe. Since 2010, I have been “addicted” to this source for me of living waters, always stimulating in the search for the Plus Ultra. Always forward. Always more and better.
