OR TO SHARE?

When we read the Word with attention, with open eyes and heart, it always gives us light. However, it is necessary to be alive before it, not sluggish.
Today’s gospel speaks of a treasure seeker who, finding one of great value, sells everything he owns and buys the field in which it is buried. But we ask ourselves some questions: Does he pledge everything he has simply to keep the treasure safe, so that no one can take it, so that only he knows where it is and enjoys it when no one sees him? Or does he buy it to enjoy it with others, with his family and friends, with his people?
For what good is a hidden treasure if no one can see it, nor enjoy it, nor share it? Such a treasure is something dead because the beautiful painting or the precious jewel acquires its value in the eyes that look at it. If there are no eyes to contemplate the treasure, it is dead.
That is why we speak so many times throughout the year about sharing. And Christian communities are certainly very generous. We have understood for a long time that without sharing there is no Christian life. And we are also learning that when we talk about sharing, we are not referring only to money, but also to other goods that are as important or more important than money but which are not monetary goods. We are talking about dedicated time, attentive and unhurried listening, about sharing simple joys and daily sorrows; we are talking about sharing dreams that give horizon to life.
Summer is a good time for sharing. Let us unearth that treasure of goodness that we have in our hearts and that others have, and let us share it. We will see something surprising: that the treasure of love, when shared, does not diminish, but grows. Sharing is a gain for everyone.
