I was born in 1936 in San Andrés de Logares, Fonsagrada (Lugo). I studied at the Seminary of Oviedo and served as a rural priest for most of my life in the Parish of Trevías (Asturias), which is composed of 18 villages, none of which had running water at home: overcoming this shortage in collaboration with all of them was my first social commitment. This led to the establishment of an Agricultural Cooperative, today of interprovincial scope, in which I was just another worker, disconnecting from the official salary and living from my work while attending to the Parish. Since retiring, I have been volunteering in a neighborhood parish in Gijón and in the International Cooperation of Caritas, which led me to travel several times to Guatemala to support projects with a clear socio-political impact on several very poor Indigenous Communities, because assistance only provides food temporarily, but does not eliminate hunger or underdevelopment. Currently, a team of people continue to support some projects in Rwanda and Guatemala. All of this was possible thanks to many excellent collaborators, to whom I feel infinitely indebted and grateful. May God bless them.
