Today’s Gospel shakes us with some of those phrases of Jesus that never seem to become domesticated: “whoever does not carry their cross and follow me…”, “whoever loses their life for my sake will find it…”. Far from inviting us to suffering, it encourages us to live with generosity and not to hold back the best of ourselves. In a society that rewards individualism and personal success, Jesus reminds us that life expands when it is shared. And in this sense, the Pope does not miss the opportunity to ask us not to be indifferent to migrants seeking protection and help.
