It is a village of a dozen permanent inhabitants. Today, Sunday, the population increases. In the middle of the plaza there are several young people and each one of them is handling a mobile phone, so there is virtually no conversation among them.
This phenomenon is found in the streets of our cities. It is common to find most people walking through the streets, focused on their mobile phones.
I find myself wondering if there is greater dialogue between men and women today. What is certain is that the transmission of news is immediate whenever there is something we want to communicate to each other.
It is common that when several people are standing in a circle, not a few minutes pass without a call or a ringtone requesting communication.
For this very reason it is so difficult to have an encounter between several people without it being interrupted. Whether it is a chat, a conference or a Mass, there is always a sound interruption.
We are in a society very similar to the Tower of Babel. Such is the abundance of communications that silence and serious conversation about any topic is impossible.
There is no doubt that our relationship between people can be enriched. But the difficulty is knowing how to use that mobile phone when it is necessary and nothing more.
I see that very soon we are going to need silence booths to enter them and be able to dialogue in small groups. What a pleasure and what luck to be able to dialogue in a small group without anyone interrupting that encounter! I am not surprised that there are places, monasteries, venues where one can be in silence, in conditions for meditation, observation, contemplation…
I understand and praise the encounters of SILENCE AND MEDITATION GROUPS. It is a pleasure and a blessing. In summer we have many possibilities. It costs nothing. And it is an enjoyment.
