Sunday V of Ordinary Time
February 8
Mt 5, 13-16
Salt seasons food to the extent that it dissolves. A person enriches relationships to the extent that the self steps aside, to the point of disappearing.
We are salt because we are life and a channel of life. When the self steps aside, what remains is life in all its purity and fecundity, which manifests and is experienced as a presence that humanizes and gives flavor to everything we live and do.
It is an invaluable gift to find someone who, by living unselfishly and lovingly, becomes a presence that welcomes, listens, accompanies, shares, and walks with us. It is that quality presence that awakens life in its wake.
We are salt that adds flavor to the extent that we recognize ourselves and live as conscious presence. Presence, first and foremost, for ourselves, thus moving from a feeling of distance or indifference to a feeling of love and appreciation, which makes our inner peace, joy, and love for others possible. And presence also for others, whom we know how to see in their original beauty and in their radical unity with ourselves.
